    • This was awful. It was supposed to be a modern telling of Austen but it failed. This needed a really good editor. There were so many problems with the language. I'm not sure what style the author was trying to write in. I think she was attempting to make it sound like Austen but it didn't work. It just resulted in clumsy syntax, bad punctuation and nonsensical sentences.Self-publishing can be a good thing, but this is an example of why it's not.

    • I'm going to be honest, I didn't even finish this novella. I got halfway through it but reading it is soring. I cannot get into the story of it at all. Progression is almost non-existent and there is no development of plot or characters. If there is no plot aside from Elle and William getting together, then development of characters needs to take precedence - but there is no character development. Months pass in the novel and we learn nothing about these people who are falling in love with each [...]

    • After reading the synopsis I felt that this novella had so much potential, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations. The writing needed a serious round of editing, and there was a lack of character development that I found myself judging both of them on my first impression all the way to the end of the story. Funnily enough this aspect was something the story was trying to get you to look past, i.e. first impressions not being a true indication of what the person is like, and all [...]

    • The 4 book series rates a 2 star with me. Great concept, new twist on an old story. However, execution was way off in my opinion. For a modern twist on a Jane Austin story the wording was way too old fashion and this took me out of the story too many times to count. Maybe it is because the author is British and the grammar and spelling is different, but damn-it if I had to read the word ‘whilst’ one more freaking time I was going to throw my kindle against the wall whilst reading this book!T [...]

    • I enjoyed reading this book. I thought it was beautifully written, the relationship between Elle and William was really something special. However I felt there was no thrill in there. I wanted some climax that will make me want to keep on turning the page and not care about how late it goes, but I just want to complete the book and find out more. If that bit of excitement was in it, I think I would have liked it more. The ending was a bit frustrating with Charlotte around. I don't know how Will [...]

    • An obvious attempt to play off of Pride and Prejudice, but to no avail. Elle Benedict = Elizabeth Bennett, William Dexter = Fitzwilliam Darcy. There's not even an effort to be original enough to come up with separate names for them! She's originally repulsed by him and his obvious disdain for her sister, then falls deeply in love with him. They spend a decent chunk of the story referring to each other as Mr. Dexter and Miss Benedict. Even the fact that she quotes Darcy directly in Dexter's stamm [...]

    • I couldn't get on with this book - the style of prose was trying to hark back to an earlier period but for me it made the text heavy and I failed to connect with the characters. Great idea to bring Austen up to date but don't try to imitate the style - more skillful authors have tried and failed. The punctuation made it impossible always - WAY, TOO, MANY, COMMAS.A thoroughly modern text would have worked better in my opinion - I will try to read the whole thing (I bought all the books for goodne [...]

    • I picked this up as a freebie on my Kindle, wanting a quick read. This was not a quick read for me at all; I struggled to even finish it. I had a really hard time with the dialogue it mostly felt forced, the character felt very unrealistic to me, and I found the romance part of it underwhelming; I skipped over most of it.Believe me when I say I do not enjoy leaving 1 star reviews, this book just didn't do anything for me.

    • I love Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice, also the idea of a modern remake. Unfortunately, this is not it. I made it about half way through and had to stop. It's disjointed making it hard to read. I thought the lack if dialog hurt the story and felt that this was the work of a very amateur writer. I do not like writing negative reviews. I know writers put their lives and time into each story. Best of luck to this author in the future.

    • The first of 4 installments. I really liked both the H and h, she was strong and stood her ground against Will, but kind of gave in quickly once he turned on the charm. I look forward to read the next installment.

    • A weak beginning to what I assume is going to be a better series. There was absolutely NO plotline to this. You, as the reader, know that Elle and Will meet and they're going go become an item, against all or any odds. But after that. NOTHING HAPPENS. ABSOLUTELYNADA

    • slight twist on Pride and Prejudice. Cover made me think it would be closer to 50 shades but wasnt. Not a fan of the author's writing style.

    • I actually loved the book but only got to read the first two and now have to wait while it's being republishedI can't wait to start it over again!!!
